Cortland Schools Receive Boost from Community Supply Drive
In a heartwarming initiative to support local educators, Guthrie Cortland Medical Center has teamed up with the Rotary Club of Cortland for the annual Teacher’s Pet School Supply Drive. This week, the organizations delivered multiple bins brimming with essential school supplies to teachers in the Cortland and Homer School Districts, ensuring they start the new academic year fully equipped. The drive was a resounding success, thanks to the incredible generosity of Guthrie's caregivers and the broader community. “We were thrilled to help local teachers start the new year off on the right foot.” "The supplies will go a long way toward filling teachers' classrooms with items they often purchase out of their own pockets" commented Sheila Ossit from Cortland Memorial Foundation at Guthrie Cortland and a member of Cortland Rotary. In addition to providing necessary materials, the donated supplies aim to alleviate some of the financial burdens teachers face, allowing them to focus on what truly matters—educating and inspiring their students. At Guthrie, the emphasis is not only on physical health but also on mental well-being. “The donated supplies will help teachers and students worry less in the classroom, opening their minds to the best learning environment possible,” added Jennifer Yartym, President of Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. This initiative underscores the community's commitment to supporting education and ensuring that local students and educators have the resources needed for a successful school year. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this supply drive possible!
