Cortland Board of Education February 4th Meeting
The Cortland Board of Education convened for its regular business meeting on February 4, 2025, at the Kaufman Center, located at 1 Valley View Dr. The meeting, which began at 6:00 p.m., featured presentations by Superintendent of Schools Bob Edwards and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Katherine Swanson and a Budget Report by Business Administrator Kris Williamson.
Mr. Edwards and Ms. Swanson presented a State of the District presentation highlighting achievements of the Lego League and other programs. Mr. Edwards then talked about the Educator Orientation Exhibit held by the Norfolk Naval Station. He talked about the challenges that the Navy has getting educators to fill spots at the Naval Academy and the tour he took of the facility. He also talked about Navy recruiters coming to the region to talk to seniors about the Naval Academy. Mr. Edwards discussed goals and tracking of goals at this point in the school year. Ms. Swanson presented updated data and how they meet the goals set down by the district. Mr. Edwards then talked about the development of next year's school calendar and presented the calendar draft. Mr. Williamson shared a budget presentation going over the governor's budget, state aid and local tax and how they affect the District budget. He went over all of the budget projections for the next school year. Ms. Ailport talked about exciting events like the planning of the Cortland County Olympiad coming up and Mr. Mack talked about the new online registration system that is now live. Mr. Williamson then announced that next year's Kindergarten class will be attending school at Parker. He also talked about state water testing that will happen in the schools this year.
The Board of Education recognized our most recent Tiger Paw Recipients; Katherine Swanson presented Tiger Paws to John Zarcone and District Crossing Guards for contributions to the District and Mr. Edwards presented Tiger Paw Awards to athletes on the Lego League Team that received first place at the recent Lego League competition.
