School Board Meeting 3/25/25
Cortland Board of Education convened for its regular business meeting on March 25, 2025, at the Kaufman Center, located at 1 Valley View Dr. The meeting, which began at 6:00 p.m., featured presentations by Superintendent of Schools Bob Edwards and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Katherine Swanson and a Budget Report by Business Administrator Kris Williamson.
Mr. Edwards highlighted district SEL Day that focused on social emotional aspects of the learning journey, the PRISM Concert and a new partnership with the Cortland Youth Bureau and the new Flag Football Program that will be hosted by the district. He reminded the board that the Imagination Celebration will be available to see at the Dowd Gallery through March 27th to April 5th. Mr. Edwards was excited to announce that the district has made a jump into the use of the program Parent Square with a pilot group that is testing the abilities of the program. Mr. Edwards closed with exciting things happening in the region regarding Career Academy and the possibility of hosting in the Cortland District.
Katie Swanson then gave a presentation about the Adult Shared Learning at Barry School that grew from the Guiding Coalition that teaches good practices at Barry and has strengthened learning for every single student.Mr. Williamson shared a budget presentation reviewing where the budget is currently and the preparation for budget season and presenting it to the public. Mr. Williamson also reminded the board that the electric bus is in the district bus garage and that the public was invited to come up and see it.
Mr. Edwards then reviewed a meeting he had with the Mayor regarding the district’s SRO and the agreement and adjustments to that agreement regarding protecting student’s information.
Board Member Lori McGivern was awarded a commendation from NY State for her work with the CARES program.
The Board of Education recognized our most recent Tiger Paw Recipients; Pam West and Rhonda Moore presented a Tiger Paw Award to Bus Driver Pat Thomas for his dedication to the safety and well being of our students.
Paul Drexler and Luke Schweider presented Tiger Paw Awards to members of the Indoor Track Team for placing in the Track and Field Section III Championship Meet.
